Tortoise Remixed by Saul Williams

Long running post rock band Tortoise released new track "Oganesson" a little while back on International Anthem, and the track is now getting the full remix treatment from a variety of artists on the new "Oganesson Remixes" 12".  Check out the strange spoken word rendition from Saul Williams below and get the record here.

SUMAC and Moor Mother

Daily Jam (October Edition) - Witch's Love Song

Earlier this year, i kind of just stumbled across this fascinating oddity from 1971 at a record store, Barbara, The Gray Witch's self-titled and sole release.  The album is a mix of spoken word, drone, folk, chants, and rituals, tests to determine whether you are witch or warlock, and notes on the Occult.  Tis the season.  Check out the said folk and drone of "Witch's Love Song" below, our Daily Jam.

Daily Jam (October Edition) - What's He Building?

Maybe one of the creepiest things ever recorded, "What's He Building?" by Tom Waits combines spoken word poetry, spooky sound effects, and a slow, haunting tone to create an ominous three and half minutes that can really get under your skin.  Check it out below, our Daily Jam.

Anika Pyle

Singer/songwriter and poet Anika Pyle just released an astounding and almost overwhelming album about grief, inspired by the sudden death of her father in 2019.  Utilizing elements of folk music, bedroom pop, spoken word, and lo-fi tape hiss, the Philadelphia artist has created something very special, and i cannot recommend it enough.  Listen to the synthy "Emerald City" below and order the "Wild River" LP here that comes along with a book of art and poetry.

Flying Lotus and David Lynch

LA producer Flying Lotus has a new record coming out next month, and aside from featuring artists like Toto y Moi, Shabazz Palaces, and more, the album also features David Lynch doing some spoken word stuff.  Watch the weird and kind of unsettling video for the weird and kind of unsettling "Fire Is Coming" below and pre-order the upcoming "Flamagra" LP here from Warp.

William S. Burroughs - Let Me Hang You

This is definitely one of the stranger recordings i've heard in a long time, but it took years and years to finally make it to our earholes, and it's wonderful.  The story goes as so: a couple of decades ago, writer and icon William S. Burroughs was asked to record audio readings of his favorite sections of "Naked Lunch."  Those recordings were then handed off to Bill Frisell and Wayne Horvitz of Naked City fame to add musical accompaniment.  Classical and experimental composer Eyvind Kang also contributed.  For some reason, the project was eventually abandoned and sat on a shelf for years...until Hal Willner, one of the original producers on the project, unearthed it and got the garage-psych-soul-punk rock wunderkind King Khan involved to add his own sounds and love to the recordings.  And now we have "Let Me Hang You," a collaborative experimental, psychedelic, spoken word record to melt your fucking minds.  Listen to the title track below and get the record here.
