Daily Jam - Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset

Sometimes i think about what it was like to go to college in the late '90s, and all of the music that i discovered at that time.  CD's were everything and we were just starting to download tracks off the internet.  And that's when i was introduced to Modest Mouse and their 1996 album "This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About."  It was a good time.  Here's "Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset," our Daily Jam.

Anika

It's been over 10 years since we last go a full-length solo album from Berlin-base artist Anika.  I was a total sucker for her Nico-esque vocal delivery layed atop the gloomy, noisy post punk on that first record, and while there is still certainly some Nico in her voice, new album "Change" finds her wading in more dubby, experimental pop sounds.  Check out the excellent title track below and pre-order the upcoming record here from Sacred Bones.

King Woman

Oakland's gloomy doom-rock band King Woman are back with a new album, "Celestial Blues," in July on Relapse Records.  Check out the very cool and gothy video for first single "Morning Star" below and pre-order the record here.

I've never really done an in depth exploration of the great works of Bob Mould, be it his solo work, his time in Hüsker Dü, or later on in Sugar.  Maybe it's time to remedy that.  Here's "Black Sheets of Rain" from Mould's 1990 solo album of the same name, our Daily Jam.

Khruangbin Cover Bowie

London label BBE has put together a David Bowie tribute album called "Modern Love," and have assembled a very diverse group of artists to take part.  The album features folks like Kit Sebastian, Helado Negro, Jeff Parker, and more.  And more so than a lot of other Bowie cover albums i've heard over the years, the artists on this one morph and mutate the tunes into their own styles and repertoires yet still maintain that Bowie bloodline.  Check out Khruangbin's worldly psyche and soul version of "Right" below and get the whole thing here.

Restless Leg Syndrome

Austrian hip-hop collective Restless Leg Syndrome pay tribute to the sounds of Mediterranean line dancing music fused with beats, scratches, and samples to create something instantly danceable and full of joy.  Originally from their long sold-out LP "Dabkeh," the two tracks on the upcoming 7" release on "Little Beat More" are a wonderful representation of the project.  Check out "Ya Nass" below and get the "Ya Nass // Hammasichanimmada" 7" here.

Shabazz Palaces

The best tracks from Seattle duo Shabazz Palaces are the ones that sound like they're coming to us from another world or dimension.  There's something so alien about the sounds they create, and new track "20 Gear Science" fits into that mold nicely.  Check it out below and download it here.

Daily Jam - Mist and Smoke

I'm not one to generally subscribe to a YouTube channel, because i'm old and frightened, but i just couldn't help myself with Adventures in Sound.  They are keeping me in groovy sounds from all over the world spanning over the last 6 decades.  It's wonderful, just like this cool track from Italian composer Vittorio Paltrinieri.  Check out "Mist and Smoke" below, our Daily Jam.
