GIFT

New York band GIFT just dropped new album "Illuminator," a mix of alt-rock, dreampop, neo-psychedelia, and more.  Their sound hits all the right spots for me, feeling like something that could have come out basically anytime between now and 1985, modern and timeless.  Check out the album opening "Wish Me Away" below and get the LP here from Captured Tracks.

I almost slept on "Everything Harmony," the latest from New York duo The Lemon Twigs, but for some reason felt compelled to give it a listen yesterday.  And holy moly am i glad i did.  It's pure pop bliss from start to finish, a collection of 70's soft rock and psych pop inspired gems.  Instantly hummable.  Check out "Any Time of Day" below and order the album here from Captured Tracks.

JayWood

Here's a little funky and hazy bedroom pop from Winnipeg's JayWood.  "God Is a Reptile" feels like a fever dream, or like being underwater in slow motion.  Check it out below and get it here from Captured Tracks.

New York duo Widowspeak are back in March with new album "The Jacket."  Their sound is tweaked a little bit here too, going by first single "Everything Is Simple."  The more wistful dreampop sounds are pushed back in favor of a kind of amalgamation of country, art rock, post punk, and ye-ye vibes.  It's cool.  Check it out below and pre-order the album here from Captured Tracks.

Molly Burch

Austin's Molly Burch has been broadening her sound over the last year or so, adding pure pop elements to her dreamy, Americana country sound.  Weirdly it works for her going either way.  New tune "Control" finds her wading through poppy alt-rock waters.  Check it out below and pre-order her upcoming new album "Romantic Images" here from Captured Tracks.

I haven't thought about indie darling band DIIV in a long time, though i do remember seeing them perform at SXSW many years ago (so long ago that they may have even still been going by Dive) and feeling like an old fart because they looked like kids.  Anyway, October brings us their latest LP, "Deceiver," and all of the shoegaze and alt-rock tinged pop that entails.  Check out the excellent "Skin Game" below and pre-order the album here from Captured Tracks.

Reptaliens

I remember coming across the name Reptaliens a while back, making a note to myself to check them out based on name alone, and then apparently forgetting to ever do that until now.  The Portland duo make quirky, lo-fi bedroom pop, which honestly is just perfect festival music.  Listen the band's latest, "Echo Park," below, get the 7" here from Captured Tracks, and catch them live in March as SXSW.
