Benoît Pioulard

Seattle based artist Thomas Meluch's Benoît Pioulard project has a new album headed our way in September, full of the beautiful ambient drone and hushed dreampop he's been perfecting over the last several years.  "Same Time Next Year" crawls, like the layered background music to an intricate nature film.  Listen below and get the Lignin Poise LP from Beacon Sound.

Ty Segall - Fried Shallots

It's Sunday.  I feel bleh.  The kids are crazy.  It's a million degrees outside.  Here's a new jam from Ty Segall from the surprise EP release "Fried Shallots."  The album features a handful of tunes from the last couple of years and new song "Big Man."  And all proceeds benefit the ACLU.  Listen below and get the album here via Drag City.

Roosevelt

Baywitch

Seattle surf rock and wonderfully monikered band Baywitch just released a new album of chugging, reverby, gnarly guitar riffs and lo-fi, garage rock ditties.  Listen to "Widows" below and snag the "Hellaspawn" album here from the band.

David West with Teardrops

Australian musician David West is a busy man, churning out releases with bands like Rat Columns and Rank/Xerox, and on his latest, the upcoming "Cherry on Willow" LP with Teardrops, he combs through spacey beats, drugged up and warped melodies, and dubby, chilled vocals.  Or at least, that's what first single "Swan's Beat" would suggest.  It's a hazy, dazed little number that feels like post punk pureed in a blender with heaps of molasses.  What a great way to start a Friday.  Listen below and get the record in September from Tough Love.

Alvvays - Dreams Tonite

Indie rock outfit Alvvays have a new album in the works, and they've just released a new jam from it called "Dreams Tonite."  The tune finds the band traversing a much more dreampop vibe than on previous efforts, and they handle it stunningly.  I'm all for this.  Listen below and be on the lookout of the upcoming "Antisocialites" LP in September on Polyvinyl.

Magnatron 2.0

Stupid retro techno synth...i just can't help myself.  The good folks over at NewRetroWave Records have bequeathed us a pretty bitchin' compilation of synthwave and retro techno artists called "Magnatron 2.0."  Listen to "Dystopia" by ALEX below and grab the album in various formats here.

Tyler The Creator

Somehow, i managed to sleep on this for the last couple of weeks, but Tyler The Creator just released a new record called "Flower Boy," and from what i've heard so far, it's really damn good.  Listen to synthy, underground R&B leaning "Boredom" below.

The Murlocs

It's storming outside, and i don't feel great, and electronic devices never work the way intended, and my dog is afraid, and i've got to go pick up my son from school in an hour.  Anyway, here's a new jam from Australian garage psych rock band The Murlocs (an offshoot of King Gizzard), and a wonderfully claymated video.  Watch "Snake in the Grass" below and get "Old Locomotive" from Flightless.

Stranger Things Season 2

Someday, i will try to make it to the annual nerd clusterfuck that is San Diego Comic Con, but until then, i'll just have to get my jollys watching all the trailers as they eek out on to Youtube like everyone else.  And lo and behold, one of my favorite things last year, Stranger Things, gets a great looking peek at the upcoming season 2.  Say what you will about the first season (there certainly is a lot to critique), but i still loved it.  And i'm psyched for the continuing story of the denizens of Hawkins.  Watch it below and nerd out with me.
