Index For Working Musik

The sounds of UK post punk band Index For Working Musik are kind of hard to pin down, the band's inclination to flutter around from one vibe to another creating a dizzying and fascinating listen.  New album "Which Direction Goes the Beam" seems set to be one of those unclassifiable records we all know and love, and "Purple Born" plays like a perfect representation of that whole mood.  Listen to the track below and pre-order the LP, due in April, here from Tough Love.

Cindy

San Francisco band Cindy are back in October with a new EP of gentle, fuzzy lo-fi indie pop.  New tune "All Weekend" pulls heavily from the sounds of The Velvet Underground, and we're all the better for it, the perfect song to watch the summer fade out to and the autumn arrive.  Check it out below and pre-order "Swan Lake" here from Tough Love.

Cindy

Here's some music from San Francisco lo-fi folk act Cindy that i missed when it dropped last October.  "Likely Story" and "Saw It All" were originally released last April as a bonus 7" included in the UK special edition release of the band's "Why Not Now?" LP, but are now available to us plebeians for download.  Check out both tracks below and download them here from Tough Love.

Ulrika Spacek

London band Ulrika Spacek make avant garde indie rock with flashes of post punk, the kind of stuff that would have soared in the mid-'00s.  Truth be told, it soars now too.  Check out "The Sheer Drop" below and pre-order the band's upcoming "Compact Trauma" LP here from Tough Love.

Badwan/Coxon

Faris Badwan of The Horrors and John Coxon of Spiritualized have teamed together for a project they're dubbing Badwan/Coxon.  It's simple and it works.  On the duo's first single, they pour psychedelia, post punk, noise rock, and space rock into a cauldron and stir it into a mind-melting mix.  Check out the acid trip of "Boiling Point" below and pre-order the "Boiling Point/Promised Land" 12" here from Tough Love.

White Flowers Cover Red House Painters

Not sure how i missed this back in May, but UK dreampop band White Flowers covered "Katy Song" by Red House Painters and it's wonderful.  It's been a long year though, so these things happen.  Anyway, the "Day by Day" 12" record is long sold out, but you can still get the download via Tough Love here, and check out the group's other releases too.

Girls Names

May brings us new music from Belfast post punk band Girls Names, just in time to darken the skies.  "Stains of Silence" is cold and moody, and brooding kind of record that feels like watching the storm clouds roll in, and cold rain begin to fall.  Listen to the oozing "25" below and pre-order the record here from Tough Love.

David West with Teardrops

Australian musician David West is a busy man, churning out releases with bands like Rat Columns and Rank/Xerox, and on his latest, the upcoming "Cherry on Willow" LP with Teardrops, he combs through spacey beats, drugged up and warped melodies, and dubby, chilled vocals.  Or at least, that's what first single "Swan's Beat" would suggest.  It's a hazy, dazed little number that feels like post punk pureed in a blender with heaps of molasses.  What a great way to start a Friday.  Listen below and get the record in September from Tough Love.
