Always on the job, GØGGS is just the latest project from garage rock hero Ty Segall. This new group also features Fuzz bandmate Charles Moothart and Ex-Cult member Chris Shaw. Listen to the raucous "She Got Harder" below and be on the lookout for the single in November from In The Red.

Lust For Youth - Better Looking Brother
Hey! Here's a new song from Sweden's Lust For Youth. "Better Looking Brother" finds the band taking what they do best, crafting moody, gothy synth jams, and cranking out a seven and a half minute dour thumper. Listen below.

Algiers - And When You Fall
I spent the weekend working and moving and watching all of my football teams blow it. And because of all that, i missed Algiers perform here in Austin on Friday night. And that makes me sad. Anyway, here's the band's video for "And When You Fall" below. Get the self-titled record from Matador. It's darn good.

Suede - Outsiders
A couple years ago, one of my favorite bands ever surprised the hell out of me (and i'm assuming everybody else) with a reunion album called "Bloodsports" that was actually pretty good, and a welcome return. Well, they're keeping it going with another album, "Night Thoughts," due in January next year, and here's our first taste, an excellent single that reminds me why i miss the Britpop 90's to begin with. Watch the video for "Outsiders" below.
Father John Misty - The Memo
Father John Misty released a new song today called "The Memo." It's a nice and melancholy meditation, and is just what i needed today. Listen below.

Guerilla Toss
A couple of years ago during SXSW, i stumbled into Beerland to watch the chaotic, animalistic mayhem of Boston noise-rock band Guerilla Toss, and it was a loud, sweaty, and amazing mess. Recently, the band relocated to New York and have mellowed their sound a tad to take on some kind of mutant dance music. It's still noisy. There's still some primal oomph to it. But now it's also strangely hypnotic. Listen to "Polly's Crystal" below and grab the "Flood Dosed" EP cassette here.

PWR BTTM - 1994
Since 1995 already got some love earlier this month from Molly Nilsson, 1994 steps up to bat with a new jam and video from New York band PWR BTTM for their song...wait for it..."1994." The song is a crunchy, heart-felt little piece of power pop fuzz, and the video feels like a 30 year old art project, analog VHS aesthetic at its finest. Watch below and get the "Ugly Cherries" album from Father/Daughter Records.

Sexwitch
The crazy cool Shawn Baker posted about the upcoming project from Bat for Lashes' Natasha Khan, the band TOY, and Dan Carey a few days ago, the fantastically titled Sexwitch. Come on. Like i'm not going to listen to something called Sexwitch. Anyway, i've been bumping first taste "Helelyos" ever since, and now we get some more music with the transcendent and entrancing "Ha Howa Ha Howa." This is ritual music at its very finest. Listen below and get the self-titled album on The Echo Label Limited.

Joan Shelley
Folk is one of those genres of music that's always just lurking around the corner. It never really goes away, just has its ups and downs in our cultural consciousness. And every now and then, something warm and magical bubbles to the surface and makes me want to lay down in the wilderness somewhere and feel the breeze and sun on my face. Kentucky singer/songwriter Joan Kelley has done just that with her new album, "Over and Even" on No Quarter Records. Featuring some assists from Will Oldham, the record feels timeless, harmonious pop that could have been plucked from any era and placed upon my stereo. Perfect listening for a quiet morning sipping your coffee, or unwinding after the sun goes down with a stiff drink in your hand. Listen to the title track below and grab the record here.

C.H.U.D.
The wonderful folks at Waxwork Records are releasing the soundtrack to the 1984 B-movie "C.H.U.D." because of course they are. Composed by Martin Cooper and David Hughes, the synth score is just the latest in a string of fantastic releases. They should probably just start mainlining this shit directly into my veins. Pre-order here and listen to "Blood Shower!" below.

Foie Gras
Like wandering around some foreign desert, lost and alone...tired...thirsty...the eyes of preying animals watching your every move...waiting for you to drop or let down your guard for only a moment, the sounds of Foie Gras' new album, "Innermost Shrine, Heavily Gilded" are both beautiful and foreboding. The band's brand of droning Americana sounds like the sun going dark on parched earth, like taking a breath and walking calmly into the abyss. Listen to "Carcass" below and grab the cassette from Not Just Religious Music.

Hungarian Synthwave Allstars
Hey you! Feel like listening to some pulsing, 80's film score-inspired synth jams while being altruistic at the same time? Of course you do. You're a good person. The "Hungarian Synthwave Allstars" compilation features a whole slew of Hungarian synth musicians and producers raising money to help a sick little girl. If you download anything today, this should be it. Stream the whole thing below and get it here.

Cold Showers
LA post-punk band Cold Showers are one of those bands that entered my radar years ago, but then just kind of dropped off...which is pretty stupid on my part, as their new album, "Matter of Choice," on Dais Records is a synthy, gothy, fist-banging colossus. Take a listen to "Plantlife" below and try to tell me differently.
Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz
I feel like i need to weigh in on this...and it feels really, really weird to do so. I'm not usually one to hype up some manufactured pop superstar, but this whole Miley Cyrus thing is just too much to ignore. Earlier this week, the former Hannah Montana released a crazy album that she made with The Flaming Lips called "Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz." To be frank, it's a complete and utter mess, but kind of a fascinating one, full of bedroom club stompers celebrating drugs and sex (what 22-year old doesn't dig drugs and sex?), sweet psych-pop ballads, and some all around weirdness. It's overlong and all over the place, basically like someone just vomited up months of artistic ideas with no real purpose, a purging of glitter and pastel colors. That's not to say that there aren't some genuine gems on the record though...which it why i'm even writing about this. Kudos to Cyrus here, going outside of her normal label system to create what she wants to create, even at those moments where it feels juvenile or misguided. She is 22 after all. And you can certainly feel The Flaming Lips' presence, and Wayne Coyne in particular. Often i can't tell if he's rejuvenating his artistic muscle working with these young pop starlets, or if he's just a creepy old weirdo. Probably more of the latter, but at least we're getting some interesting music out of the deal.
Anyway, i couldn't embed the whole thing, so you'll need to go here to listen to the whole album, but in the meantime, take a gander at the Ariel Pink assisted "Tiger Dreams" below.
I can't believe i just did a write-up of Miley Cyrus.

John Carpenter's "Purgatory" from this year's "Lost Themes" album gets the remix treatment from Prurient, turning the tune into this scraping, crawling, ugly little dirge. It will be featured on the "Lost Themes Remixed" LP, due on Sacred Bones in October (just in time for Halloween). Listen below.

MICK and Leon Bridges - Coming Home to Texas
Already having a spectacular year, Fort Worth soul man Leon Bridges just released a new collaborative album with MICK, featuring remixes and reinterpretations of songs from this year's "Coming Home" LP. "Coming Home to Texas" features Houston rappers Bun B and Slim Thug as well as a whole slew of samples and beats. Listen to "Better Man" featuring Bun B and production from Chi Duly below and go here to download the whole thing for free.
Free online album releases are apparently the taste du jour this week, with this, a hip-hop heavy album from Toro Y Moi, and a surprisingly good effort from Miley Cyrus (don't judge me) hitting in the last few days.
